Take A Little Trip With Me

Yesterday would have been better. It was 66 degrees and sunny, but very breezy. Today not such a great day; a high of 46 and clouds most of the afternoon but very little breeze. Still weather that requires me to wear my woolen earflap hat and glad to have it.

Since there is threat of rain for the next few days, today was the day to get a big chunk of clean-up work done in the garden. Phase one has been completed; each trellis was liberated of the dead plant hanging on it and put to rest in its winter spot. T-posts were removed and placed on the corners of the garden for easy reach next spring. Dead plants pulled up and hauled away up into the field and put on a pile to be food for the compost pile I plan to create next spring.

Phase two and three might have to wait for a short while. Good weather and a boat-load of personal energy will be required to clean up the dropped fruits of the dead plants; post-frozen and rotting tomatoes, beans that were hidden and not picked from the plant and beets that didn’t get harvested in time. Phase three is removing remaining weeds and refreshing the pathways with chicken litter and the growing beds with compost.

Since our tractor, which is as old as I am, (only a few of you will be able to determine what year the tractor is) has been deemed unsafe and too broken down to use, Mike bought a barely used 2022 John Deere 3038E tractor with a loader and forks. He is getting some projects done using it so that’s a good thing. Since I bank-rolled this little beast, I feel I should have opportunity to use it. So I snatched up the task of driving the tractor to take the garden debris up to the ‘pile it but don’t forget about it’ area up by the line fence and back down to the garden again. Just a few trips and the job was done.

If you have a spare 4 minutes and 59 seconds that you don’t care that you’ll never get back, take a virtual ride with me to take a load up to the field and back to the garden. You might want to turn your volume down a bit. The tractor is a little loud.

Had it not been for the early sunset I could have had more driving time. 🚜

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
