Closing out September with a hot day

I occasionally wonder why we end up doing the most labor when the day is hot and the sun is shining.  Maybe we’re just lucky?  Today is the last day of the month and it surprises me that the temperature was 81 degrees at one point when I looked at the weather station display.  The relative humidity was over 90.   No wonder I’ve been sweating all day.  It’s hot!

Today was the day to move the chicken tractor to another area of the pasture.  That entails a lot of work with moving the equipment and fencing to another area.  We lock the hens in the tractor the night before so they can’t get out as usual in the morning.  Then they get to ride to their next grassy spot.  It takes us about 2 1/2 hours to do.  We still have to finesse our methods a bit and I think we should be able to cut off a half an hour of time.  I got up late today so no early start.  We were just finishing up when I heard the noon whistle from the town about 8 miles away.  I made a command decision to not clean out the inside of the tractor until tomorrow.  We still hadn’t had our morning coffee yet.  I didn’t want to wait another hour for that and we were both hot, sweaty and tired.

The hens were happy to get a new spot to eat up and dig in.  I am happy that we don’t have to do that again for another week.  Hopefully we won’t be moving them in hot sunny  weather.

Goodbye September.

Luke 4:40

When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.
