February has been allowing quite a few consecutive days of spring weather to tease us. Happily, the groundhog didn’t see his shadow so I certainly could believe that this weather is our early spring. Now I don’t deny that thought is unrealistic but one can dream, right?
Junebugg and I took advantage of the mild weather today after chores and took a walk up on the hill to check things out. We didn’t see much in the way of fresh animal prints in the snow with the exception of crow prints. I don’t like crows. I think they’re creepy. Especially when they are perched in a tree and not moving. They watch me, I’m sure of it.
The overnight fog had frosted the trees and the early morning sunlight was melting the spikes of frost from the branches. As the falling pieces hit the hard previously-melted surface of the snow on the ground, the tinkling sound I heard was like the sound of the long, thin plastic pieces that fall in the game PIck-up Sticks that I played frequently as a child. It was very harmonious. The bright sunlight, the falling frozen fog, and the spectacular clear blue sky totally enticed me and I pulled the phone out of my pocket to get some photos.
I have learned to better appreciate our small piece of property and the nature growing upon it. I am increasingly grateful to be blessed with the opportunity to enjoy the glimpses of nature that God allows. I find that it centers me and I am in need of that right now.
There have been a crazy amount of health issues with those in my personal sphere of life lately. It’s hard not to slip into the trap of despondency when things appear bleak. Observing God’s elegant creation helps me to focus back onto the glory of God; who He is, as well as the mercies extended to me by His forgiveness, grace, and salvation. These things are hope. And this calms me for a few precious moments.
