Rain and Ice

I checked the forecast when I woke up this morning. I had about 1 1/2 hours before the line of thunderstorms would hit. My dear one was already outside trimming some brush when Junebugg and I met up with him. The three of us walked up to the barn together and I proceeded to check on the baby chicks in the brooder house; fed and watered them and moved on to the turkeys. The hens were happy to get their daily scratch. It was a nice day yesterday and we finished working on cleaning up the front porch and washing windows; an impromptu project we started the day before yesterday. Maybe I’ll blog about that in another post. Time will tell concerning the outcome of the tom’s condition.

We heard thunder as we were starting chores and it was really, really dark in the western sky but hey-the forecast should allow us another hour before the rain and chores should take us under 30 minutes even if we took our time. But just then….

I was not prepared to get wet. I didn’t even wear my hat because the sun wasn’t shining. However, we needed to get the feed up to the chickens so we had to just bite the bullet and work in the rain. Or rather the downpour. Luckily there was no thunder or lightening as we worked. We got wet, the feed got wet, the scratch got wet, the egg basket with my phone in it got wet, but I put that under cover as soon as I saw that and it wasn’t in the rain for too long. It still works, thank goodness.

Poor Junebugg. She had to follow along with us and also got wet, until she got smart and hunkered down under the parked mower remaining out of the rain until we were done with the chickens.

The icemaker in our refrigerator has not been working for several years. My dear one had informed me that he wasn’t going to fix it anymore. His handy-ness proved to be valuable a couple of times in the past when he fixed the ice maker, but he said he was done doing that. I don’t know why because he was quite successful in fixing it before. So we buy ice cubes in bags.

Actually, we use a lot of ice in the water we drink with meals and for general hydration. We’ve been out of ice cubes for several days and they are missed. So, I bought a tabletop ice maker and it works! The cubes are smaller than we are used to but this little ice making powerhouse doesn’t take long to make the cubes and we were able to fill up the ice cube holder in the freezer in a few hours. Not only do we have ice cubes now whenever we want, I am absolutely tickled when I watch the machine finish making a cubing session. I recorded a cube making session for posterity.

Uh-oh. Another line of storms has hit as I write this. Boy, it is really coming down. About an hour ago my dear one decided to drive the John Deere over to his brother’s house to move something outside. Probably a decision he regrets making now. He hasn’t come home yet. I can’t imagine that he’s stayed dry. 🌩🚜

Luke 17:24Β

β€œFor as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day.
